"Young Geospatial Professionals Summit"

Addressing global challenges requires energy and enthusiasm. From poverty to climate resilience to gender inequality and scarce natural resources, the Young Geospatial Professionals Summit at the United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress will allow the younger within our global community to share their observations and experiences, in their quest to contribute and a difference. Young geospatial professionals must be, and are part of our sustainable future, leveraging geospatial information, technologies and services in the quest for effective solutions and actions through innovative acquisition and application of place-based information and services for sustainable development. Young geospatial professionals will make a difference.
The Young Geospatial Professionals Summit provides participants of the UNWGIC, particularly the younger, to engage one another, to exchange ideas, experiences and struggles to be part of the solution and to make a difference, along three broad aspects:
- Effective governance and institutional arrangements;
- Culture of sharing and partnerships; and
- Developing trusts with geospatial data, technologies and innovation.
The magic and effectiveness of the summit, is not merely in the talks and the presentations, rather the opportunity for young professionals of diverse backgrounds, different circumstances and divergent career choices, to meet, to interact, to share, to learn and to relate with one another and sundry, on one's experiences, joys and heartaches, to inspire and to be inspired. To be part of a global geospatial information community that wants to keep the promise to leave no one behind.

The welcome and introductory addresses will also outline some key global challenges facing humanity today and in the upcoming future, challenges that will need to be addressed by relating people, events and activities to place, and the call for action, including to young professionals
The United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework is a basis and a mechanism to strengthen national geospatial information management by governments and is anchored by nine strategic pathways. The presentations here will highlight some of the initiatives and activities either at the global or the local levels to strengthen national geospatial information management capacities and capabilities to address the challenges, and how the younger can proactively be part of the solution.
