The working group was established under decision 5/110 at the fifth session of the Committee of Experts in August 2015 with the mandate to develop and implement a strategic framework that brings all stakeholders and partners involved in Disaster Risk Reduction and/or Emergency Management together to ensure that quality geospatial information and services are available and accessible in a timely and coordinated way to support decision-making and operations within and across all sectors and phases of disaster risk management.

Major achievements of the Working Group 2015-2019 :

The "Strategic Framework on Geospatial Information and Services for Disasters" was adopted by the Committee of Experts at its seventh session in August 2017 (Report E/2017/46 E/C.20/2017/18, decision 7/110), and is available in all 6 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish,) of the United Nations.
The Strategic Framework on Geospatial Information and Services for Disasters was adopted by the UN Economic and Social Council in July 2018 under resolution 2018/14
The Assessment Survey on the Strategic Framework on Geospatial Information and Services for Disasters was endorsed by of the Committee of Experts in August 2019
