The Third Meeting of the IAEG-SDGs Working Group on Geospatial Information (IAEG-SDGs: WGGI) was convened from 8th – 10th May 2017 in Kunming, China and attended by 18 (out of the 23) members of the Working Group, two invited resources persons, four national experts and two staff members from the Secretariat. The meeting was hosted by the Government of China through the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation.

IAEG-SDGs: Working Group on Geospatial Information seeks to ensure from a statistical and geographic location perspective that the key principle of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, to leave no one behind, is reflected in its Global indicator framework. The tasks of the Working Group include considering geospatial information contributions and inputs into the global indicator framework and its metadata needed to better measure, monitor and inform progress towards achievement of agreed sustainable development goals and targets.

The Third Meeting was provided with updates on recent developments including the Fifth Meeting of IAEG-SDGs in March 2017, discussed and reviewed progress of the the six task teams that were established in Ciudad de México (12 – 14 December 2016), worked on and agreed to another set of tasks that will consider data availability for Tier II indicators within the list of indicators that the Working Group has agreed to focus on during this period.
