"Strengthening National Geospatial Information Management in the Americas"


The session will share national experiences within the Americas in implementing geospatial information frameworks along with components in diverse subjects including institutional arrangements, legal frameworks, technology platforms, availability of geospatial data, use of standards and capacity building. Demonstrated initiatives are presented on documentation and dissemination of good practices for managing geospatial information as a means to strengthen communication and collaboration among the countries of the region in support of national requirements. Approaches embodied in the global strategic framework of UN-GGIM 2018-2021 and its formulation in the proposal of a national geospatial strategic framework serves as guidance for the implementation of these components in a national, regional and subnational context. Included in the discussions are an analysis of the work areas addressed in the Americas to promote the development of geospatial information management with reference to the global strategy, within the framework of the Regional Committee UN-GGIM: Americas and ECLAC. Complementary, regional assessments will be shared on the progress of the countries in the implementation of their national geospatial data infrastructures (SDI).
