Geo-Empower Webinar Series
28 January 2026 virtual
In keeping with the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management mandate to convene global forums to promote comprehensive dialogue and promote knowledge on global geospatial information management with all relevant governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre is launching the “Geo-Empower Webinar Series” as a dedicated programme of online knowledge exchange and capacity-development sessions.
Since its creation, the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) has actively worked to position geospatial information to address global challenges, including climate change and resilience, disaster risk management, and land and property rights. The Committee aims to strengthen the availability and accessibility of geospatial information to meet the evolving needs of global agendas such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States: A Renewed Declaration for Resilient Prosperity, the Sevilla Commitment, the Pact of the Future.
The United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF) is a key framework, the overarching ‘anchor’ for many activities under the purview of the Committee of Experts and support countries to reference when developing and strengthening their national and sub-national geospatial information management systems and capabilities. The UN-IGIF provides the guidance for developing, integrating, and strengthening national geospatial information management arrangements across all sectors (such as environment, marine, cadastral, statistics, utilities, insurance, development, planning, security), bridging the geospatial digital divide, and supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and national priorities.
Organized by the United Nations Globa Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre and an array of global geospatial thought leaders, these webinars are designed to address specific geospatial themes such as financing, resilience, cities and land use, education and health, utilizing virtual platforms to engage a global and diverse audience. Each session features experienced experts and practitioners who share practical insights and demonstrate the application of geospatial technologies to address development challenges, particularly those related to Sustainable Development Goals implementation. By showcasing practical case studies and innovative solutions, the series provides a platform for knowledge exchange and transfer, enabling participants to adapt and apply lessons learned within their respective national and institutional contexts. Through participatory and interactive dialogue, question-and-answer discussions, and peer-to-peer learning, the initiative strengthens technical capacities, promotes international cooperation, and empowers participants to make informed, data-driven contributions to sustainable development.
