The United Nations Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information (UN EG-ISGI) convened its second meeting on Sunday, 24 May at the Lisbon Congress Center, Portugal, prior to the INSPIRE-Geospatial World Forum 15, held from 25-29 May 2015, at the same venue.
The meeting was convened in accordance with Statistical Commission decision 44/101 and UN-GGIM decision 3/107, which welcomed the proposal to establish an Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information to bring together experts from both statistical and geospatial information communities to work for the development a global geospatial-statistical framework and address issues related to the integration of statistical and geospatial information.
The Lisbon meeting aimed to (i) continue the global consultation and communication on the development of a global statistical-geospatial framework, initiated by the UN Statistical Commission and UN-GGIM; (ii) review the progress of work programme items of the Expert Group; (iii) discuss ways of collaboration with the European Forum for Geography and Statistics; (iv) focus on metadata interoperability - the case for connecting geographic and statistical information standards; and (v) discuss the way forward for the work of the Expert Group.
